Finding News Articles

Traditional News Sources

You can set up an individual subscription to the New York Times (set up your subscripton here) and the Wall Street Journal (set up your subscription here) through your CU email address. You can login to local Colorado newspapers like the Denver Post and the Boulder Daily Camera through this link. Other newspapers require searching through the library databases for articles. You can search individual newspapers by typing in the title on the "publications" link from the University Library page. If you want to search multiple newspapers at the same time, you can search within different newspaper databases, like ProQuest Current Newspapers, Access World News, and Gale OneFile: News. Some collections, like Newspaper Archive and ProQuest Historical Newspapers, are good resources for historical research.

Legal News Sources

Some popular legal news sources that you have access to are Bloomberg Law News and Law360. Access Law360 using the VPN if off-campus, or through your Lexis account. Bloomberg Law News requires logging into your Bloomberg Law account. If you don't have an account set up, contact lawref@colorado.edu to set up an account. Through Bloomberg, you can search both Bloomberg specific resources, as well as other legal news resources like American Lawyer Media (ALM).

There may also be subject-specific news sources of interest to you, like Energy & Environment News through Politico Pro. Check out what news sources you have access to through the University Library databases.

Setting up Alerts

Bloomberg News Alerts

You can set up News Alerts in Bloomberg by going to the Bloomberg Terminal News Search, adding your keywords (be sure to check out the advanced search techniques by clicking on the question mark next to keywords!), selecting your sources, and clicking on "create alert" at the bottom of the search page.

You can set up email newsletters for existing Bloomberg news pages either from the specific news page directly, or by clicking on the "Research Trail" link on the top right-hand side of the page, selecting "Alerts" from the drop-down menu, and then toggling the switch to blue for the newsletter(s) you want to receive.

Westlaw Alerts

You can create alerts in Westlaw by clicking on "Notifications" on the top right-hand side of the page, selecting "Alerts" from the drop-down, and then clicking on "Create Alert." You have the option to create different alerts. The most popular alert types are "Publication Alert" (to be notified when a new issue of a certain publication is available) and a "Westclip Alert" (a customizable alert where you can select different content types- e.g. cases, statutes, secondary sources, and run advanced searches within them).

Lexis Alerts

Anytime you run a search in Lexis you can easily create an alert from it by clicking on the "Alarm Bell" icon in the top-right hand side of the page.

Law360 Newsletters

You can set up an advanced search for Law360 News within your Lexis account like any other Lexis alert. However, you can also subscribe to  Law360 subject newsletters by clicking on the red "Newsletters" button on the Law360 page, entering your Colorado email address, and selecting the topics you want to subscribe to.
