New York Arbitration Convention

The Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, also known as the "New York Arbitration Convention" or the "New York Convention"  applies to the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.  According to the University of Miami School of Law, 


The New York Convention of 1958 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards provides for the international enforcement of arbitral awards. Considered as the most successful international convention in international private law, the Convention now has over 160 Contracting States and more than 2,000 court decisions interpreting and applying the Convention. 

 

The ICC has published a Guide on National Rules of Procedure for Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Awards Pursuant to the New York Convention of 1956.
